"Since the 1980s, when electronic control units (ECUs) first appeared in mass-produced cars, their number has grown substantially: a modern vehicle1 incorporates more than 100 such units. In the 1990s, automotive manufacturers began using microcontrollers with rewritable flash memory in ECUs. This innovation made it possible to update unit firmware in vehicles that are already in use on public roads."

Vulnerabilities
- Next.js Ships Out-Of-Band Patch For Two Critical RCE Flaws In Caching And SVG Processing
"Next.js released an out-of-band security update on October 14 that fixes two critical flaws allowing unauthenticated remote code execution, along with a high-severity denial-of-service flaw. One code-execution flaw is in React Server Components, and the other in librsvg, the open-source library Next.js uses through the sharp package to handle SVG images. The fixes are in Next.js 16.4.1 and 15.5.28, the current Active and Maintenance long-term support (LTS) releases."

"Threat actors are exploiting a critical security flaw in Langflow, according to an alert from Previdian. Langflow is an open-source platform that allows developers to build artificial intelligence (AI) applications and agentic workflows. In February 2025, DataStax, the parent company of Langflow, was acquired by IBM. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2026-105740 (CVSS score: 9.9), a case of authenticated remote code execution impacting versions prior to 1.9.0."
https://thehackernews.com/2026/10/langflows-critical-authenticated-rce.html - NGINX Fixes 5 Flaws, Including Possible RCE And a TLS Bug That May Skip Client-Cert Checks
"NGINX released versions 1.30.6 and 1.31.7 on October 14 to fix five vulnerabilities, one of them present in every release since May 2005. There are three memory bugs that F5, the company behind NGINX, says could crash a worker process or possibly let an attacker run code, and each requires a specific configuration to exploit. A fourth lets an attacker forge a TLS session that could get past client-certificate checks, though F5 calls the forgery non-deterministic and beyond the attacker's control. The fifth lets an HTTP/3 client slip extra bytes into a request that NGINX passes on to a backend."
https://thehackernews.com/2026/10/nginx-fixes-5-flaws-including-possible.html - Drupal Patches Critical Field UI Flaw With Unauthenticated RCE Path Via Contributed Modules
"Drupal core has a critical flaw in its Field UI module that could let an attacker run code on the site's server, and fixes were shipped on October 14 in Drupal 11.4.10, 11.3.19, and 10.6.19. An attacker cannot reach the flaw through core alone, the Drupal Security Team said in its advisory. Several exploit paths exist through contributed modules, and at least one known path needs no login. Tracked as CVE-2026-108097, the flaw sits in Field UI, the core module behind the admin pages where site builders manage fields and how they display. Drupal rates it 19 out of 25 on its own risk scale, the level the project calls critical."

- Analysis Of The Infrastructure Of ARTEX, a Chinese AI Penetration Testing Tool #4 – The Birth Of Copy Cat
"Since the original ARTEX GitHub repository disappeared, there has been an increase in independent distributions and customized instances based on the existing ARTEX codebase. These distributions are being redistributed with the product name, UI, filesystem structure, agent settings, and language modified, while retaining traces of ARTEX."
https://asec.ahnlab.com/en/95875/ - Skynox7: Proxyjacking Edge Devices Into Residential Proxies
"Adversaries have a wide range of mechanisms they can use to obfuscate their public internet protocol (IP) addresses to avoid attribution and reduce their detectable signature. Adversaries have used various types of nodes and services to proxy their traffic including commercial virtual private networks (VPN), virtual private servers (VPS), co-opted victim infrastructure, and more. Over time, defenders have been able to use adversary choices in infrastructure to surface illegitimate activity."

"A threat actor uploaded malicious packages to the Arch User Repository (AUR) that impersonated two popular helper tools, yay and paru. AUR is a community-maintained, widely-used package index for Arch Linux and derivative distributions that hosts package build scripts (PKGBUILDs) for third-party and proprietary tools, beta, or older package versions that are no longer available via the official Linux distribution channels. The repository has recently become a target of malicious campaigns, including an attack in June in which 400 packages distributed credential-stealing malware with rootkit capabilities. Another campaign in July prompted Arch to temporarily disable package adoption."

"A calendar invite is one of the most routine messages in the modern workplace. It lands in the inbox, asks for a few seconds of attention, and is rarely questioned. Attackers know this, and they are now using fake meeting invitations to steal Microsoft account credentials. We have identified several large-scale phishing campaigns that abuse fake calendar invites to harvest credentials. Some arrive as an .ics attachment (example 1). The file is valid calendar data, so the attack abuses calendar features and user trust without exploiting a software vulnerability. Others use a link that appears to lead to a different destination (example 2). Both are designed to harvest the victim’s credentials."

"A domain returns a blank page. Maybe a generic “Not Found” message. There is no login form, suspicious branding, or obvious phishing content to investigate. Yet the phishing site may still be there. Check Point Exposure Management researchers uncovered a large scale, multi region phishing infrastructure designed to conceal active campaigns behind seemingly inactive domains. Starting with a handful of phishing URLs, the investigation identified a repeatable technical fingerprint that ultimately connected the activity to thousands of rotating domains targeting organizations and users across multiple regions."

"Barracuda analysis found CAPTCHA abuse in 43% of the phishing-kit attacks examined during 2025. The use of CAPTCHA is evolving from a simple stage in credential theft to enabling malware infection, browser notification abuse, or users executing malicious commands themselves (ClickFix). Layered security, threat intelligence, and user awareness can help stop these attacks before they succeed"

"The Aoki (aka Aokigahara) infostealer has begun stealing credentials for AI coding assistants. Recent versions of Aoki analyzed by the Symantec Threat Hunter team were designed to harvest credential and session files for Claude, OpenAI's Codex, Cursor, Codeium and Gemini, alongside the browser, cryptocurrency wallet and password manager data that infostealers typically collect. The capability is recent and appears to be expanding. Aoki is a relatively new stealer that was first seen earlier in 2026. However, older samples did not look for AI-related files, meaning the capability was added to the malware recently."

"For years, cybercriminals used malware to steal data, encrypt systems, or establish persistence inside networks. Increasingly, however, malware is being used for a different purpose: stealing identities. Modern infostealers harvest browser credentials, authentication tokens, session cookies, and other data that allow attackers to impersonate legitimate users. Recent developments involving Lumma Stealer, the booming infostealer economy, and the Acreed infostealer show how stolen identities are becoming one of cybercrime’s most valuable commodities."

"Threat research is always a bit of a cat-and-mouse game, and it’s often made more so when an actor survives years in the face of scrutiny. The actors behind the so-called Help Traffic Distribution System (TDS) are one such case. They’ve been active since at least April 2017 and have been largely unaffected by the cybersecurity world around them. Help TDS delivers tech support scams (TSSs) that direct users to call centers, where social engineering is used to convince them to install remote desktop tools. It’s not simple credit card fraud: it’s remote access, living-off-the-land malware operations. Once in, the threat actor can exploit the victim time and again."

"Attackers are impersonating popular AI products to distribute malware, steal browser sessions, and compromise business accounts. ANY.RUN linked 1,258 public sandbox analyses to fake AI campaigns between April and October of 2026. The campaigns also increase operational pressure on MSSPs serving US businesses, which accounted for 16% of country-attributed targets. Similar attacks appearing across different customers can trigger repetitive investigations, consume analyst capacity, and extend response times, making it harder to maintain consistent service levels as threat activity grows."
https://thehackernews.com/2026/10/fake-ai-attacks-spread-across-us.html - The Campaign That Never Stopped: Tracking GhostAction From 2025 To 2026
"Between October 8th and 12th, the campaign accelerated with a major spike between October 8th and 9th. In total, our dataset shows the threat actor targeted more than 30,000 repositories across 3,000 users and orgs. This resulted from compromising the GitHub accounts of about 1,900 users. It attempted to extract 3,174 secrets from public repositories’ CI. This new wave seems more experimental and manual than previous ones, with the payload evolving over time. Compared with the original GhostAction payload, the first version of this new payload added a git history secret-scanning feature."

"Unit 42 identified a campaign targeting government entities and state-affiliated infrastructure, with observed activity spanning from October 2025–April 2026. We track this activity as CL-UNK-1211. In the operations we witnessed, the attackers relied on AI-generated payloads. Multiple artifacts deployed throughout the intrusion contained AI-made conversational annotations and developer reasoning comments, suggesting that the code was either generated using large language models (LLMs) or executed by an automated AI agent."

"This report summarizes cases in which Suo5 (an HTTP/HTTPS-based tunneling tool) was exploited for pivoting—a technique used to expand the scope of an attack to other systems or networks by passing through a system that has already been compromised—by using compromised web servers as relay points to access internal networks for lateral movement. It also explains the relationship between tunneling (a technology that encapsulates data from one protocol within another protocol for transmission) and port forwarding (a technology that forwards traffic from a specific host and port to another host or port)."

"There are more than 50 distinct ways to scam someone online, and F-Secure's Threat Intelligence team catalogued them all in its new Scam Encyclopedia, one of the most comprehensive guides to scams and fraudavailable today. Built from decades of research, the continuously updated, living guide covers both established scams and new methods most people haven't heard of yet. Unlike similar resources available online, the Scam Encyclopedia emphasizes a different point of view: every scam is explained from the victim's perspective, covering what they see, what they're told, what they're asked to do, and where exactly the "scam" comes in. That structure makes it easier for readers to recognize the same pattern in their own lives, before they become a victim themselves."

"Some prominent, even state-sponsored threat actors are giving up on trying to build cyberattack campaigns with artificial intelligence (AI), contrary to the popular notion that AI is pervading and "enhancing" cyber threats, so often recited in cybersecurity product marketing, news headlines, and LinkedIn-grade thought leadership. Just this week, mainstream media outlets picked up a story based on self-reported survey data that found around 84% of ransomware attacks utilize AI in some form or fashion. At a glance, it seemed frightening. But in a briefing shared with Dark Reading this week, Proofpoint highlighted TA4903, a once-sophisticated cybercrime actor that's been suffering from conspicuous AI rot."

"Organizations are facing an impossible ordeal, tracking millions of vulnerabilities across hundreds of systems. Vulnerability management needs a revamp, but that doesn't mean ditching prioritization and data-driven approaches. Organizations need to focus on what will affect them— there's simply too many flaws now to do otherwise."

"Hundreds of French grocers lost tens, if not hundreds of millions of euros this week from cyberattacks that manipulated their refrigeration systems. Overnight on Monday, hackers broke into commercial refrigeration system controllers at major French grocery chains. They converted refrigerators, freezers, and cold storage rooms into heating units, raising their temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius (over 120 degrees Fahrenheit), completely spoiling all of the food they contained, and reportedly even causing some small fires. The threat actor's identity and motives are unclear."

"In this Help Net Security interview, Michael Scott, CISO at Immuta, talks about how organizations should handle permissions for AI agents. He argues agents should be treated as lower-trust identities that don’t inherit everything their user can access. Scott explains why agent privilege creep differs from the human kind, how authority should pass to sub-agents, and why authentication alone does not secure what an agent does. He predicts at least two major enterprises outside the AI sector will suffer a critical AI-related incident within 18 months."

"Censys found that AI-related software exposed to the public internet grew 63% in nine months, from 164,088 IP addresses in October 2025 to 267,915 in July 2026. Elsewhere in its scans, the internet-scanning company measured much slower movement. Exposed industrial control systems rose about 4% in two and a half years. The oldest versions of four widely deployed business products barely changed their share at all. The growth spans 44 products. n8n, a workflow automation platform now used to connect AI agents to other services, accounts for 113,926 hosts. Of the n8n servers that report a version, 76.1% run a release inside the affected range of at least one vulnerability scored 9.0 or higher. Those servers store credentials for the services their workflows connect to."

"The cyberattack that disrupted refrigeration at hundreds of French supermarkets this week also affected equipment from Copeland and its Dixell brand, according to France’s national cybersecurity agency ANSSI. ANSSI’s CERT-FR first warned on October 12 of numerous compromises involving Danfoss AK-SM and AK-SC series refrigeration controllers. A day later, the agency updated its alert to include Copeland XWEB and Dixell XWEB systems. Copeland initially declined to confirm the agency’s findings, but it has since acknowledged a vulnerability. “We are currently working with impacted customers to mitigate the risk,” the company said."

"For most of its history, cybersecurity has been reactive by design. Spot the bad event, shut it down. But as cyberattacks evolve, this thinking must evolve too. In the past, attackers relied on a single dramatic exploit to access the crown jewels. But the nature of attacks has changed. Defenders see ordinary events they don’t think are important enough to follow up on, but before they realize it, these events lead to a dramatic breach. A breach can start with a common event like an admin login or an unfamiliar tool being downloaded after office hours. This first step, if left unchallenged, leads to each following step growing more severe, resulting in a security incident."

"The young James Robinson attended a small high school in Central Illinois and describes himself as ‘more sporty than STEM’: “I wasn’t going to knock it out of the park in the English class – but luckily the English teacher was also the track coach, so that helped.” In his final year in high school, the principal suggested going on to something vocational or trades-related rather than university. A friend was already in a vocational school doing electronics engineering, so he went that route. That school had just been included in the Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad)."

"Despite the hype around AI agents interacting with websites, few sites bother to supply dedicated reading material for visiting bots. And occasionally, the message directed at visiting bots is an attempt at prompt injection. While about 10 percent of sites use robots.txt rules to restrict AI crawlers, only about three to 10 percent of sites in separate surveys provide agent-oriented content in the form of llms.txt, a proposed format for exposing website information to AI systems."
