Organizations Go Ahead With AI Despite Security Risks
-
- According to Immuta's AI Security & Governance Report, AI adoption is on the rise, with 54% of data experts stating that their organization already uses at least four AI systems or applications. Furthermore, 79% of respondents reported an increase in their budget for AI systems, applications, and development over the past year.
However, this surge in AI adoption also brings significant uncertainty. For instance, 80% of data experts agree that AI is making data security more challenging. Concerns include the inadvertent exposure of sensitive data by Large Language Models (LLMs) and adversarial attacks by malicious actors via AI models. In the past year, 57% of respondents have witnessed a significant increase in AI-powered attacks.
Despite these challenges, data leaders remain optimistic about the potential of AI. Many believe that AI will enhance current security practices, such as AI-driven threat detection systems (40%) and the use of AI as an advanced encryption method (28%). Moreover, 85% of respondents are somewhat or very confident that their organization's data security strategy will keep pace with the evolution of AI.
This confidence indicates a maturity curve in organizations' approach to AI initiatives, with many proceeding despite risks due to the expected benefits. However, the rapid changes in AI, coupled with fluid regulations and opaque models, underscore the need for dynamic data security strategies.
Ultimately, the report emphasizes that there is no responsible AI strategy without a robust data security strategy. It calls for establishing governance that supports adaptable data security measures to navigate the evolving landscape of AI effectively.
